An event that ties Vancouver into the international day of activism against
the WTO and corporate globalization. To coincide with the Cancun WTO
Ministerial September 9- 14, 2003. The roots of carnival in the Americas lie
in a resistance to oppression, through the powerful expression of cultural
/community traditions. Through dynamic creative expression, carnival
celebrations mock the powers that aim to control and oppress. Carnival
celebrations also unite peoples in their resistance and creation of new
ways of existing together. We will have space for musicians, actors,
speakers, storytellers, poets, spoken word artists, visual artists,
performance artists, organizations who want to educate about the issues
they are engaged in and willing participants to come and speak out against
inhuman economics and speak for sustainable alternatives. A family
oriented event that aims to make the links between what we are experiencing
locally with what is happening globally. Come joing us! Bring your
imagination!
