Today's show will debut a new song by local artists raising awareness of
and money for the missing women of the Downtown Eastside (the Buried
Heart project -- see very end of email for more). We will also play the first
portion of an interview with Peter Collins, a man sentenced to 25 years for
allegedly killing a police officer, who details the corruption at Bath Institute
in Ontario. We will also hear from another man who allegedly killed a cop,
and has been on death row for over 20 years in Pennsylvania: Mumia
Abu-Jamal. His words will preview the special this Sunday...

We also have lots of news and events (listed below) for activists all
around the city, lower mainland and the country, so tune in today from
1pm to 2pm, only on Co-op Radio, the People's Station...

Sunday, April 25th from 7pm to 10pm: Dispatches from Death Row.

Prison Radio has been diligently recording Mumia Abu-Jamal's words for
years, despite intense harassment from prison authorities.

Sunday you will hear all new, never heard before recordings from Mumia,
all of which have been produced this year. He talks about the war in Iraq
the peace movement in general, and many other very important issues.
He is clear, articulate and incredibly insightful.

Don't miss Dispatches from Death Row, Sunday, April 25th from 7pm to
10pm, part of Co-op Radio's Spring Marathon fundraising drive. Call 604-
684-8494 during the show and take out a membership to keep
Vancouver's Community Station on the air for a 28th year!

And Thursday, May Day 2003, tune in to Co-op Radio, 102.7 FM, all day
for a labour focussed solidarity special! Many shows are working together
to celebrate International Worker's Day...Sound Resistance! will culminate
the day's programming from 6pm to 9pm with a focus on local, provincial,
and international actions by working people to fight for our rights. This,
too, is part of Co-op Radio's Spring Marathon fundraising effort; call in
during the show to show your support for Sound Resistance! and
Community Radio...keep independent media alive and well on the West
Coast by making your pledge and taking out or renewing your
membership! Call 604-684-8494

The Buried Heart Project
Healing the community through the power of song

The song "The Streets Where You Live" by the Buried Heart Project is a
tribute to women who suffer daily from the abuses of drug addiction and
life on the street. It is also a call to action - a reminder that if we ignore the
suffering of others, we ignore our own humanity.

With a desire to address the needs of women at risk in our communities,
many of Canada's finest musicians, producers, engineers, studio owners
and other members of the music industry have come together to produce
"The Streets Where You Live".

Profits from the sale of the recording and related merchandise will go to
the Buried Heart Society, a not-for-profit organization created to promote
better protection and improved quality of life for women who suffer from
the abuses of drug addiction, prostitution, and poverty.

Buried Heart's first beneficiary will be the Via Nova Transition Society, a
foundation set up to establish and sustain a four-bed residential
detoxification and transition facility for women on the Vancouver's
Downtown Eastside. The facility will provide addictions counselling, peer
support, medical care, and follow-up programs to help women develop
new living patterns. By helping residents to overcome poverty, Via Nova
hopes to address the root cause that prevents many women from
breaking the habitual cycle of substance abuse and its inherent lifestyle.

You can help Buried Heart to make a difference.
