RESIST THE VIOLENCE OF AMERICAN IMPERIALISM

The war on Iraq waged by the United States and Britain is illegal,
immoral, and a threat to the peace and security of the entire world.
In waging this war without the sanction of the United Nations the
imperialist "Coalition" have effectively dismissed the UN as an
instrument of determining international conflicts and opened an era
of unrestrained aggression, the rule of sheer military power. In
arrogantly displaying its imperial might, the U S has not only broken
the law of international relation as it currently exists but the rule
of law itself. Terror has now been legitimated: all may use it with
equal sanction.

Understandably, millions of people across the globe have condemned
this war. All people are threatened by it. If the mighty can do what
they want because they can, there is neither freedom nor security for
people. The war will generate violence across the globe, the
aggressive violence of states against states, the violence of people
resisting imperial and state violence, and the repressive violence of
states against people. In this endless cycle people will reap only
suffering.

South Asians have reason to be particularly concerned about the
consequences of this war. South Asia is already involved in
escalating militarism and internal violence. The example of
imperialist violence can only increase these. The absorption of the
region in American global interest is also likely to intensify the
conflict between the people and the state. South Asians in North
America are already suffering. Many South Asians in the U S and
Canada faced violence and humiliation following 9/11. They continue
to face harassment and humiliation in the U S, both at the border and
inside. This has discouraged travel between Canada and the U S and
led to the fleeing of South Asians from the U S to Canada.

We must all unite to resist American imperialism and the regime of
raw military power. We must resist the increasing erosion of civil
liberties for all and the harassment and humiliation of people on the
basis of their origin, religion and skin colour. We must demand that
the Canadian government receive and assist people fleeing oppressive
conditions in the U. S. We must ensure that Canada maintain its
commitment to peace, law and civility in the face of pressure from
the U S and its Canadian allies to join the imperial train.

We urge you to join SANSAD and peace-loving people everywhere to
demand that the government of Canada exert its moral force and
diplomatic ability to resist imperialism and work toward halting its
march.
