Conference on Academic Freedom and the Public Interest
ATTENTION: All those concerned about the future of the university and its
relationship to the public interest ... or about the ability of our
researchers to publish free of corporate influences or coersion ... or of
the ability of
faculty and students to publicly criticize U.S. foreign policy, or to
voice
opinions on international affairs free of political coercion ...
There is a very important event taking place at SFU on April 24th and 25th
that may have escaped your notice.
The list of speakers at this event is quite remarkable:
David Suzuki, Nancy Olivieri, Sunera Thobani, David Healy, Jim Turk and
Andrew Feenberg
and many more researchers and public intellectuals with national and
international reputations.
The aim of the conference will be to establish the vision and policy
groundwork for a new accord between research and teaching centres and the
public interest, bringing together some of North America's most prominent
researchers and public intellectuals to present the case for the defence
of the university and the promotion of greater links between academia and
society.
