From Sarah White Wed Sep 25 23:45:35 2002Hello everyone,
Attatched if a poster for squat support night that is being organized for
this Friday night (from 6:00 pm onwards)
If you are involved with a school or students' union and you would like to
promote this, feel free to make any adjustments to the poster (like adding
your own contact info) and put them up.
If you are involved with another organization (other than a school) you
are welcome to come down and Friday night anyhow, or you may want to
organize a similar support night with your workplace, community group or
union.
In spite of what the media would like us to believe, public support on
this issue is big and growing. The fight for low-cost social housing is
linked to the Olympics debate, to the ramifications of the cuts and
layoffs
that are sweeping the province, and to the travesty of the 50+ missing
women
from the Down Town East Side.
Inspite of the outrageous behaviour on behalf of the police over the last
few days, the morale among those directly involved in with the Woodwards
Squat remains admirably high. The will is there. I really believe that
this struggle could become the catalyst for major change in this province.
May I respectfully suggest that if you have been thinking about getting
involved with the Woodwards Squat but haven't yet done so, now would
certainly be the time.
in solidarity,
Sarah White

ALL STUDENTS' SQUAT SUPPORT
Friday, September 27
from 6:00 pm onwards
In response to an urgent call for volunteers at the Woodwards Squat, post
secondary students from across the mainland are joining together in the
fight for low-cost social housing.
Working with the Squatters this coming Friday, we will help alleviate the
pressure on the volunteers (who have been working on location around the
clock) by collectively assuming responsability for a night of work.
The events which have unfolded at the Woodwards building over the last two
weeks are truly historic. It is in all of our interests that more
affordable housing be made available in this province. Let's take this
opportunity to get involved and help bring victory to this struggle!
We can help:
-Run the 24 hour food table
-Bring donations of food, blankets, & supplies
-Provide video, audio & photo documentation
-Paint banners & perform live music
-Raise public awareness of the need for Social Housing
-Build solidarity and enjoy!
*Members of Faculty, Support Staff and Administration are also welcome to
attend!
