Dear Community Member,
This is a letter inviting your organization to endorse our demand to
reinstate funding to womens centres, sexual assault centres and other
support programs for women, and to attend our September 24, art action,
Free Art: artists on the street to save womans lives. This event is
happening at the Provincial Court House on Robson Street (across the street
from the Vancouver Art Gallery, 8oo Block Robson Street) at 5:00 PM.
BC has the highest rate of violence against women in Canada with over 59% of
women having experienced sexual or physical violence. The cuts to community
based services for women who have experienced sexual assault will place
womens lives at risk; coupled with existing cuts to womens centres this
government has left women with nowhere to run.
We have chosen to use art with it strengths in nuances of emotion to
emphasize the human sacrifice of this governments legislation. The action
itself will be a mix of performance based work such as theatre and dance
with speakers interspersed throughout.
We, Alternatives Made Visual, are asking your organization to endorse our
demand to reinstate funding to womens centres, sexual assault centres, and
women's support services, and we encourage you to attend this art action.
Please bring your banners, signs and friends as a show of solidarity.
This will be a child friendly event.
Feel free to contact Alternatives Made Visual at 604-872-5665, by
fax 604-736-3346 if you have any questions, or by sending an e-mail to

In Solidarity
