Yo Folks. (Please circulate)
Just saw a good thought-provoking and layered
production that's a must-see for social justice
activists, especially those working on Downtown
Eastside issues, and lay theatre enthusiasts.
(Low cost ticket options available.)
If theatre should awake the senses and mind, then
this dark comedy did it for me with lots of good
chuckles. A bit bleak, it is entertaining with serious
overtones of whether there is an end to evil. I left
the theatre buzzing, talking and thinking about the
production. Strong colourful language used liberally.
RESPECTABLE by Ron Chambers
Directed by Donna Spencer
Tickets $10 - $20 and pay-what-you-can on
Sundays at 2:00PM and Wednesdays at 1:00PM.
Dark Mondays. Until October 27 at Firehall
Theatre, 280 East Cordova Street, DTES

This gritty production reveals the propaganda and
culture of organized greed and excessive consumption.
Set in Alberta, the story could be a big picture
explanation of why the B. C. government twice used
public security forces to disperse the homeless at
the Woodwards Squat. Why are there no theatre reviews?
You will know why there is no corporate sponsorship!
May I suggest a stop at Woodwards to drop-off
some food and a four block stroll, bike ride or
drive to the theatre. Really worth seeing and
supports the twenty years of hard work Donna
Spencer and the Firehall have done to bring
professional theatre and diversity into the area.
Director's Notes: It was Chamber's ability
to write natural dialogue, catching the
essence of split focus conversations and
unfinished sentences along with his up-
front approach of challenging the status
quo, of asking us to act and think responsibly
and to question propaganda whether it be wel-
meaning or not.
