OLYMPIC OPPOSITION SPOKES COUNCIL MANDATE:
- to create an active mobilization against the Olympic bid, while
promoting the collective vision of a just and democratic society
- to foster the development of solid, creative strategies and actions to
oppose the Olympic bid (our efforts will build toward a mass action in
February/March 2003 during the Vancouver tour of IOC representatives)
- to re-examine strategies after the IOC tour, based on events between
then and now
SPOKES COUNCIL OBJECTIVES
- to coordinate groups in the greater movement, some of which are already
putting energy towards opposing the Olympic bid
- to encourage groups and individuals to become involved in the process of
public awareness and outreach in all aspects of the bid
- to create various action committees specific to Olympic opposition.
The action committees which have already started to form include:
- petitioning the IOC
- lobbying for a meaningful referendum
- various impact studies
- creative resistance strategies
- public awareness and outreach
- more committees will likely be created through the presentation segment
PROPOSED AGENDA:
1. Introduce mandate, meeting objectives and agenda.
2. Each spokesperson presents a 2 minute overview on their groups (or
individual) specific focus regarding the bid, current and future
strategies, and vision.
3. Review potential action committees.
4. Form action committees and choose a date/location for an initial
planning meeting, and choose a spokesperson.
