MONTREAL CABARET ARTIST/AUTHOR/MUSICIAN NORMAN NAWROCKI
LAUNCHES NEWEST BOOK AT BUKOWSKI'S
East meets West when internationally acclaimed Norman Nawrocki, a
Vancouver-born / Montréal-based, cabaret artist, author and musician
(Rhythm Activism, DaZoque!, Bakunin's Bum, G-7 Welcoming Committee
Records) comes home to launch his fourth and newest book, 'The
Anarchist & The Devil do Cabaret' (Black Rose Books) with an early
reading/live music performance Sunday October 20, at Bukowski's
Cafe,1447 Commercial Drive, from 5pm to 7pm. The event is free.
The long-awaited 207 page, illustrated book (available and selling
worldwide) is a rollicking Rhythm Activism (RA) band travelogue of
Europe and a collection of 23 short stories Nawrocki wrote on tour.
It includes a series of fictitious letters(1939-1990) from an
eccentric uncle to Norman's father. The stories, 'urban fairy tales'
- real and exaggerated are filled with a cast of friends, lovers,
panhandlers and anarchists. RA is Norman's 'rebel news orchestra/
rock 'n roll cabaret' band that music critics have called 'powerful,
brilliant & subversive.'
Nawrocki will read excerpts from the book and accompany himself on an
amplified violin with a sampler and assorted pedals and toys
(vibrating bass dildo, frying pan, bottles, etc.). He'll throw in
some East European dance tunes for an exciting mix of traditional,
digital, humorous music.
His last book('No Masters! No Gods! Dare to Dream!) was published by
Vancouver's 'Smarten Up!/Get to the Point' Publishing house. He's
currently touring Canada with the new book.*
