Call Out for Anti-Poverty Contingent on October 7th.
We, the Anti-Poverty Coalition of Victoria (APOV), are calling on all
anti-poverty activists, unemployed and low wage workers, union allies,
squatters, native warriors, anti-capitalists, and underclass
revolutionaries of other stripes to march with the anti-poverty contingent
within the larger march in Victoria on October 7th. We call on the
Woodwards Coalition to bring their momentum into the capital and make the
demand for social housing heard and felt as loud and clear as possible.
This is in no way intended to be divisive from the larger protest but a
method for making sure the voice of the poor is heard and the movement
against the cuts breaks away from the passivity and non-action that marked
the last big protest in Victoria (F23). Whether you march in the
anti-poverty contingent or not you should be prepared to participate in
and/or support direct actions within the larger march.
It is commonly understood that despite the massive demonstrations of
opposition to the cuts and privatization, the Liberals are showing no
signs of sudden moral enlightenment. Greedy parasites like Gordon
Campbell are only interested in maximizing the profit for the business
elites, so we must use our solidarity, organization and actions to make
the cuts bad for business. (This is why the Day of Defiance is
happening during business hours on a Monday.)
The common idea for Oct. 7 is to Up the Ante and to start to
move in the direction of victory. To make this a reality we are required
to understand that our biggest barrier to freedom is not the liberals but
has been our own unwillingness to put something on the line. The Day of
Defiance has the potential to ignite a new wave of resistance. This
October we will make this government feel the wrath of the people and
taste the consequences they will suffer if they do not listen to our
demands…
………..Solidarity is our
weapon!
