This video highlights the experiences of three young Indigenous women
who travelled to the first International Indigenous youth conference in
Baguio city, Philippines. Presenting aspects of the struggle of the
Indigenous people of the Cordillera, Phillipines in defense of their
land, resources and life and their resistance to imperialist
globalisation. Fighting against development aggression and
militarization the srtuggle for self determination is global, Indigenous
youth have started to work on an International and community level
towards achieving self determination. Told through inteviews, footage
from four rural communities and through the culture and spirit of
indigenous resistance.

his work with Mexican political prisoners and Indigenous activists.
Scenes of resistance and the words of freedom fighters pack this video

of the residential school experience. Skeena created this piece while
attending Emily Carr College of Art and Design, we can always expect

Raven The Great Salmon Hunter

Chirs Auchter’s cartoon celebrates a Haida story about how Raven learned
to fish. This animation short is brilliantly expressive and
entertaining. Raven and Eagle come to life, their stories to be passed
to a new generation in a new medium.
A Decked in Tale

A Decked in Tale is an experimental animation featuring Alice in
Wonderland Tarot cards. This story explores the independent roles of
each tarot card in a special reading event. Produced through Projections
a video and film training program for youth in Downtown Eastside and
Downtown South communities.
Vadzaih: Gwich’in Youth on the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge
Producer: Leanne Allison, Elaine Alexie, Gwich’in
Running time: 7min.
Vadzaih means caribou in the language of the Gwich’in – one of the last
native cultures still living off the land in North America. This seven
minute film documents the importance of the Porcupine Caribou Herd to
the Gwich’in youth of northern Canada and Alaska-a generation fighting
to retain their traditional culture in a fast changing world.
People of the River

This video looks at the importance of salmon and fishing to the Stölo
Nation and the culture. From ‘illegal’ fishing and Department of
Fisheries and Oceans patrols to the daily lives and subsistence
economies that salmon has supported for thousands of years.

life sentence about life in jail. Alfred reflects on his own life and

Through the eyes of youth we examine racism as a reality and how it
impacts the lives of children and youth. Youth share their perspectives
on what they want for their future.

Ju’Nam (a Maya Quiché word meaning “all together”), was produced by a
group of native youth all living in Chicago. The youth discuss how
native identity – from both north and south – is transformed in a
displaced urban environment.

Shot all in one day by 10 year old Peter from Taos Red Willow
Reservation this video shows a community coming together to restore
pueblo walls that were vandalized by someone in the community. A
community comes together during the restoration of the adobe walls. In
English and Spanish ( no subtitles)

Jennifer Ramos Awingan
Cordillera People’s Alliance Youth Centre, Philippines
Jennifer recently helped to organize the first International Indigenous
Youth Conference in the Phillippines. She works with the Cordillera
People’s Alliance Youth Center promoting the concerns of Indigenous
youth in the Cordillera, Northern Phillipines.
Emiliano Vasquez
Emiliano recently returned from Mexico where he was part of a Human
Rights Commission documenting the state of imprisoned Mexican political
prisoners and Indigenous rights activists.
Nitannis Desjarlais
Filmmaker and Indigenous Rights activist, Nitannis works in a
documentary style covering controversial issues from the perspective of
the warriors who are on the front lines of addressing Native issues in
Canada.
Kamala Todd
Kamala Todd is a filmmaker and focuses on breaking the silences of
colonialism through telling the stories that have been hidden for too
long. Stories and place are the subject of her up and coming new work.
