The name of our union is the Industrial Workers of the World. "Industrial"
does not refer to big grimy factories, it refers to industrial organization,
or organization by industry.

In the IWW, we believe that everyone in a particular workplace should have
the same union, because we all have the same boss and deal with the same
problems.

So rather than putting all janitors, whether they clean bank offices or post
offices or restaurants in one union, isolated from the people who walk on
the floors they clean, we say the if the janitor's check is signed by the
same guy who signs your check, that janitor should be in the same union.

Everyone working in one place has to look out for everyone else there, and
when one person has a problem, it's everyone's problem.

That way, we can get ourselves together as one big union to cover each
others' backs and get the things we need, like protection of our wages and
jobs, control over our shifts, safety on the job, and the like.

Everyone working in the place in one union, coming together in a democratic
fashion to make the whole thing work better for the people who do the work.

Industrial organization is a flexible tool, the idea is to get you together
with the people you work with to make a difference in your working life.

Get in touch with us, and we'll be glad to help you work out the details.
