RESIST AND OPPOSE US IMPERIALIST INTERVENTION IN THE PHILIPPINES!
Once again the deadly claws of U.S. imperialism is preparing to strike at
another victim. This time, it is aimed at the Philippines. Not content
with its fresh $55 million military assistance to the crisis-stricken
Macapagal-Arroyo regime, it has now declared as foreign terrorist
organizations the National Democratic Front of the Philippines (NDFP) and
its member organizations, most especially the Communist Party of the
Philippines and the New Peoples Army. It has even asked the Dutch
government to prosecute the foreign office of the NDFP based in Utrecht, the
Netherlands.
It is a matter of record that the NDF is a legitimate liberation movement
that has been fighting for the national democratic aspirations of the
Filipino people for several decades now. Through its protracted struggle, it
has forced the Philippine government to conduct peace negotiations for a
just and lasting peace in the country. Some European governments have even
offered their offices to be used as venue for peace negotiations between the
NDFP and the Philippine government.
The US decision declaring the NDFP a foreign terrorist organization is
blatant bullying of a small country. It is a clear intervention in the
internal affairs of the Philippines and an outright violation of Philippine
sovereignty. It is also a sign that it has lost faith in the ability of its
neo-colony like the Philippines to contain the surging tide of the national
democratic movement in the Philippine. It sees the need for direct US
military intervention as the only way to maintain the neo-colonial status of
the Philippines.
Apparently, U.S. imperialism has never accepted the decision of the Filipino
people to get rid of US military bases in the Philippines in 1992. It is
now itching to re-establish itself in the Philippines in the guise of
fighting international terrorism. After claiming to have destroyed the
Abu-Sayaf terrorist group which was the creation of its own Central
Intelligence Agency (CIA) in the 1990s, it is now turning its attention to a
legitimate liberation movement that is fighting for a just and lasting peace
in the Philippines.
The NDFP has emphatically responded that it would not be cowed by this
latest intervention of the Philippines. It holds the Macapagal-Arroyo
complicit in this decision by US imperialism. This would lead to further
increase in human rights violations and suffering of the Filipino people as
they intensify their resistance against this intervention and puppetry of
the existing regime.
It was almost one hundred years ago that the United States caused the death
of around 800,000 Filipinos in their struggle against US colonialism. That
was 10% of the population back then. One wonders how many millions
Filipinos will now lost their lives against this blatant US intervention to
perpetual neo-colonialism in the Philippines.
We call on peace-loving people and those who cherish their independence and
sovereignty to support the struggle of the Filipino people for a just and
lasting peace and to resist US intervention in the Philippines.
Down with US imperialism !
Resist US intervention in the Philippines!
Down with the Macapagal-Arroyo regime!
