Hey team,
Don't forget, meeting at 5 today.
Wanted to let you know about two public panels going on -- unfortunately both at the same time, but both totally free and worth checking out. One is on the changing role of government and the economy, the other is about the future of accessible education, which will be filmed by CUTV. If Lex wasn't actually hosting the former herself, she'd be at the latter. Read here:
Finding the Balance: Panel on the Role of Government in the Economy
Come to our public panel discussion and debate on Tuesday, March 30th to discuss the role of government in the economy. In the wake of the recession and with the provincial budget looming, this topic has never been more relevant.
How has the role of government changed in light of the recent economic collapse?
Is a Keynesian style of governance outdated or just out of fashion?
Is laissez-faire really fair?
Our distinguished panelists represent all sectors of society and all viewpoints; there will be plenty of room for public participation.
Panelists are...
Project Director at the Center for Interuniversity Research and Analysis on Organizations, Mathieu Laberge;
Director of Policy for the Youth Commission of the Quebec Liberal Party, Jérome Turcotte
Projet Montreal City Councillor of NDG, Peter McQueen
Community organizer and union activist, Bertrand Loiselle.
And as an added treat...the panel will be on the same day as the Provincial Budget is released!
A short reception with complimentary refreshments will follow the panel.

What is the future of higher education? Will tuition increase? Should it? Will our universities follow the 'American model'? Should they? What is the purpose of the university?
Come learn more or voice your opinion at the Public Panel & Debate:
"The Future of Accessible Education: Who Should Pay for it?"
With panelists:
- Dr. Judith Woodsworth, President, Concordia University
- Dr. Daniel Dagenais, Faculty, Concordia University
- Eric Martin, Researcher, IRIS (Socio-economic Research Institute)
Tuesday March 30th, 2010
6:30pm - 8:30pm (just two hours after the announcement of the provincial budget)
Concordia University's Hall Building, Room H-110
1455 deMaisonneuve W.
The event is open to all and absolutely free.
It is a rare opportunity to hear directly from Concordia's President and to directly ask her any questions you may have about the accessibility and quality of our university education or about the 'American model' previously mentioned by President Woodsworth in her open letter to the Link newspaper. You can also express your opinion about what Minister of Education Michelle Courchesne said on Feb. 11th: “I think there is a consensus [on increasing tuition fees] that is being established in Quebec. When I speak of consensus, I exclude the students.”
If you have an opinion or experience related to tuition, the role of government in funding education or the 'American model' and want to voice it, if you want to learn more about different perspectives on this issue, about the government's decisions about tuition increase or if you care about the future of accessible and quality education in Quebec, come join the debate at 6:30pm.
Organized by Concordia Graduate Students' Association and Free Education
Montreal (formerly Montreal Students Against Tuition Increase), co-sponsored by CKUT and CJLO radio
