überculture : 20.09.09

At some point over the last few weeks, you've signed up for the überculture mailing list. If you don't know why you're on it, just send an email to lex at resist.ca to unsubscribe.

Beloved troublemakers,

If you're only going to read one email from us, let this one be it ; there's a lot of important (and exciting!) information about the next week.

What you'll find in this email:

1. An Open-Source Manifesto
2. Flash Mob Wake-Up Call
3. First Cinema Politica Screening
4. First überculture Meeting / Elections ***IMPORTANT
5. Alternative Orientation

    • MANIFESTO. Brian and Lex were talking about how strange it was that überculture didn't have a manifesto. Surely, if any organization on campus should, it's this one. It seemed somehow inappropriate to write one ourselves though, so instead we've decided to set up shop on the floor of the Hall Building all day long on Monday ( tomorrow !) from 12-7pm with markers and big paper, letting folks write their own! We will compose some basic headings: "We demand..." "We imagine a campus where..." "We are sick of..." and then you do the rest! Come join us, write something, or help us facilitate what is possibly the first ever Open Source Manifesto!

    •
FLASH MOB. Big ass flash mob taking place all over the city tomorrow at 5:30 for climate change. Bring bells, pots, pans, cellphones, sirens, whatever. Make some noise. RSVP on Facebook here.

    •
CINEMA POLITICA SCREENING. The first Cinema Politica screenin g of the semester happens in H-110 on Monday at 7:30. Watch the trailer for ¿¡Revolución!? right here .

    •
überculture's first meeting is taking place Monday the 28th at 5:45 pm in P-103. P-Annex is right across the street from the Hall building, two doors over from the Second Cup. Show up with ideas, with friends, with whatever. This is going to be a very informal, but very important meeting. If you'd like to attend, but will be unable to, send an email to uberculture at csu.qc.ca and let us know that you'd still like to be involved. Most importantly, there will be snacks. Everybody likes snacks.

    • ALTERNATIVE ORIENTATION. This week is QPIRG-Concordia's Alternative Orientation. All the cool kids are going, and you should too. If you want to help table for überculture, let us know -- we'll be at the Wednesday tabling fair behind Java U from 10-2, and would love a hand.

FINALLY, Check out the new site for a collection of links and information about groups we love, as well as a shortened version of our mandate. If you've got any neat ideas, want more information, or are just feelin' kinda lonely, don't hesitate to get in touch.

For the wild!
