[Ticst] Hey all - check this out

Hi Joseph and all,

I won't be there today, not able to make it up to campus. I don't have
totally clear articulated thoughts about this, but after our meeting I
reflected a bit on what we'd talked about and the way that the energy
coalesced that evening to sort of produce the moment where doing a casual
event in convo mall emerged.

Honestly I am wary of the optics of it - three (or more) white-looking
folks, perhaps more men than women, standing and voicing their
frustrations. I definitely think provocation and stirring the pot is a
great tactic, but I wonder how this one-off event reproduces some of the
manifestations of structure that we talked about as problematic that night.

Also am wary of the cyclical way that we jump towards action without having
thought through potential ramifications. I feel a pendulum swing in myself
- from frustration at the seeming lack of collective/public action (which I
actually think is somewhat false, it may just not be happening is such
visible places), then at the other end the desire to *do something*, to
create a "rupture" in the everyday monotony.

I think that this pendulum swing is the conceptual problem that also
contributes to a feeling of flailing sometimes, after having done the
rupture and not getting a desire -but unspecified- response form the social
back. "Rupture" events also seem qualitatively negative (that in itself a
great tactic too) in that they critique and grate. I wonder about flipping
this around, and rather than staging the negative grate, going a step
further from that and offering something creative (the negation of the
negation to get all dialectical about it....

just some thoughts, and appreciate you all taking the time to read these
too many words.
