Hey,

I want to confirm if anyone who was as Natalie's will be coming tomorrow to the soapbox? Or anyone else?

Hey All!

So tonight we had Natalie, Darren, Ben and myself. We met, caught up, and then kind of found ourselves humming and hawing about how we should proceed/what is to be done. Which actually led us into a really awesome discussion about how difficult it is to create a broad, unified social movement when life is so fragmented - and yet the Right manages to pull it off... hmmm... I actually kind of wish I had taken notes, it was a really good discussion.

We found no substantial answers. However, what had led us into the discussion was a question posed by Natalie: why did Tics dissolve? Was it something about the terms of association? etc. Thus the talk about all of or fragmented lives and the confusing inability to find a common cause even amongst ourselves.

SO we decided that if we aren't unified in terms of a broader struggle, then we can be unified in our frustration. So on Thursday the 10th at 2pm, we are going to meet at Convocation Mall and take turns standing on a box and yelling about why we are frustrated. We still have to work on the details of the box, and I'm going to try to get my hands on a megaphone so we don't lose our voices. However, this is an open invite - the more of us there are the better we can stand in solidarity with each other for this nerve-wracking but potentially liberating and totally health experience. Spread the word! We hope you can come.

Think of it as a social experiment - we decided that the less official organizing the better, and to approach this as a casual and open-ended event. It's time to engage in some emotional agitation. If anyone has a video camera please bring it so we can document this process!

Joseph

Ah! I totally forgot about the meeting this evening! Hope it was productive, and looking forward to seeing you all again at the next one.

Best,

Hi Darren,

Agree on the huffpost article. Ugh!

If it works for everyone, why don't we meet at my place at 7pm. 358 Powell Street, between Gore and Dunlevy, green door-gate. Give me a call and I'll open up.

Hey everyone,

Haven't seen you all in a long time! I'm down to meet tomorrow at 7pm. Should we make a decision on location?

Also, not sure how the men's centre thing is going at SFU but it's sad and disturbing to see huffpost give this much space to MRA despite including some perspectives from feminist scholars: http://www.huffingtonpost.ca/2013/09/27/mens-rights-canada-centres_n_4001456.html?utm_hp_ref=mostpopular

see you soon!

Let's try for this coming Monday, say 7pm? Folks are super welcome here (358 Powell Street) or if we'd prefer a public space, there's The Grind on Main Street.

looking forward to seeing you all.

Glad to hear this pick up again!

Monday probably works for me (generally), though I'm heading into a crazy couple of weeks, and might not be available until a few weeks into October...

We were meeting at Reg's place before. Is commercial drive still a good location for everyone to get to?

I'm absolutely in - Monday evening would be preferable, but Sunday also works!

Hi Joseph and Steve - whoa, apologies for the deelay in reply to you both! The how-to for the open access journal is a great to know, and that collection Steve looks really exciting.

We've drifted quite a ways since the springtime, and I imagine and hope that everyone has been doing and chasing the things that inspire. I also regret not asking us to come together over the summer, to at least check in and speak about what we are all up to individually, in other collectives, and how this group does or doesn't get its w!
ings off
the ground.

I'd still like to talk about this, and also hear about where people's energies are multiplying. We also shared quite a few ideas for projects that might be good to revisit, whether they shoot up from this group or shoot elsewhere. Is there any interest in gathering on an upcoming Sunday or Monday (or another) eve?

Hello Everyone,

I hope you all had a great summer. Here are two links that everyone should really check out - it is especially relevant considering what we we discussing regarding publications.

This one:
http://thesiswhisperer.com/2013/09/04/how-to-start-an-open-access-journal /
Is all about how to start an open access journal - a concept which I think has a lot of potential.

Here is the link to the software itself:

Thoughts?
