STANDING AGAINST APARTHEID
Building Cross-Campus Solidarity with Palestine

Dear friends:

We are writing to invite you to participate in the upcoming Palestinian 
solidarity skill-building weekend, "Standing Against Apartheid: Building 
Cross-Campus Solidarity with Palestine," October 4th and 5th at McMaster 
University in Hamilton.  The conference is ONLY open to Palestinian 
solidarity activists, though activists with ALL levels of experience are 
welcome to attend!  The goal of the conference is to strengthen the 
student and faculty movement against Israeli apartheid by sharing 
resources, strategies, and lessons learned through two days of workshops 
and panel discussions with organizers from universities and colleges 
across Canada.

The conference will feature workshops and talks such as:

* How to host Israeli Apartheid Week (www.apartheidweek.org) on your campus
* The Right to Education campaign
* Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions in an academic context
* Debating the academic boycott of Israeli apartheid
* Building solidarity with students in Palestine through union organizing
* Indigenous solidarity from Turtle Island to Palestine
* Planning events and educationals
* Divesting from Israeli apartheid
* Getting creative in your activism
* Fighting censorship and backlash on university campuses
* How to organize faculty effectively

Speakers and facilitators will include members of:

* Students Against Israeli Apartheid (SAIA)
* Solidarity for Palestinian Human Rights (SPHR)
* Students for Justice in Palestine (SJP)
* Coalition Against Israeli Apartheid (CAIA)
* Faculty for Palestine (F4P)
* Tadamon!
* CUPE Ontario
* Association pour une Solidarité Syndicale Étudiante (ASSÉ)
* and many more.

Conference participants will be given free educational kits that include 
information on how to organize Israeli Apartheid Week, fact sheets on 
students living under occupation, film clips, and other materials to use 
in your work.

* To RSVP and receive more detailed information about the conference as it 
develops, please return the attached registration form to 
standing.against.apartheid at gmail.com as soon as possible.* We are asking 
$20 from participants to cover conference costs, but no one will be turned 
away due to lack of funds.  Funding to partially cover transportation 
costs may be available, and we will try to facilitate a carpooling network 
for participants.

* IMPORTANT NOTE: A major focus of the weekend will be preparing students 
to host Israeli Apartheid Week on their campuses in early March 2009.  If 
you are unable to attend the conference but would still like to be 
included in the organizing loop, giving you access to big-name speakers 
and resources, please let us know by writing to saia at riseup.net.
