our cooperative and union development activities tackled all of these challenges.
www.wccsip.ca
the idea was to create alternative income sources so people could try to exit out. we developed a consulting cooperative with its own resource package and presentation for people to use and adapt to any presentation they wanted to deliver. it was hoped we could engage the greater public, educate them and get paid for doing it.
we also had proposed a coop brothel. in india the workers can get "micro'loans" and buy their brothel room. they could even buy more than one room and rent them out to other workers. this was a sort of retirement plan as the rooms generate income and if a greater sum of money was required, the workers could sell a room.
there was also a cooperatively run strip club/ venue for artistic events - we had hoped there would be a kitchen, serving jobs and of course the accounting end of a business. this way we could fundraise or put on a show and profit not only from the entrance fees but from sales of drinks and food as well.
we tried to find funding to develop these plans but it never came through to fruition except the consulting cooperative work.
our trade secrets occupational health and safety training development which came out of our union development stuff discovered ways sex workers can build their own pensions, have extended medical and build for their futures.

paying taxes and building your credit can help as well. this way you can access a loan for moving into another line of work or to develop a dream.
i will also say that having opened my own business , a butcher shop, and run it for 3 years, its not easy but its getting easier. it was completely worthwhile and while i am not "exited" and still work as a sex workers everyday, there will be a day when i don't have to if i don't want to. i would recommend a small business to anyone thinking of leaving sex work or trying to plan for their futures. after all we're all our own bosses anyway so its a natural fit!!
vancity bank have a great loans plan for small business start up.

forget the bog banks, they were completely rude and for the most part no longer finance "new" businesses. credit unions are cooperatives and are more inclined to support new businesses.
hope thats a little helpful, if any one has any questions please feel free to ask.

I'm interested in doing something new, utilizing my other talents which I haven't promoted as much as I should because I've been so comfortable. Everything makes so little money compared to sex work. But money isn't everything, especially when you spend it as quickly as you earn it.
