[SWAF-Potluck] SPACES Research Study

Hi Ki, thanks for adding me to the list.

Hi everyone,

I went to a potluck a while back with Janine and met some of you.

By way of introduction, I founded few organizations to support industry workers like Boys R Us, HUSTLE and the MAP van.  I used to run PACE society and the BC Coalition of Experiential Communities. I've been a long time advocate on issues of labour rights, health and safety for people of all gender identities working on and off-street.  And rest assured my education on the sex industry work didn't all come from books!

I'm working with Vicky Bungay from the school of nursing at UBC on the SPACES (Sex, Power, Agency, Consent, Environment and Safety) study. Those of you who know me know that I don't vouch for people lightly. I met Vicky Bungay, a former nurse, through other allies like Tamara and Chris.  I started working with her in January on the SPACES study and I've come to trust her. Her past research has done a lot to help improve the lives of sex workers and she's a good egg!

Attached is our e-vitation for adult sex workers, sex buyers, sex industry support staff and venue managers to participate in the study. Contact me if you would like to do an interview or if you want to refer someone.

Tomorrow Janine and I will be in the community chatting with folks, distributing research information and conducting interviews in the GVRD, beginning in Vancouver neighborhoods.

We're also distributing Trade Secrets, the occupational health and safety guide for the sex industry that the Coalition created.  Vicky was kind enough to print 1000 of these for sex workers. If anyone would like a copy of the guide let me know and we'll arrange something.
