Two staff positions have been created to fulfill the City of Vancouver’s
response to a Missing Women Commission of Inquiry recommendation (2012) and
are now posted on the City’s web site. These can be viewed at
http://vancouver.ca/your-government/find-and-apply-for-a-job.aspx. Both
of these staff will work in conjunction with City departments, VPD and
the community to enhance the safety and well-being of those individuals and
neighbourhoods affected by sex work and sexual exploitation, including the
prevention of sexual exploitation among children and youth.
While the staff will work together and as part of the Social Policy team,
one of the social planners will focus on survival, street based sex work
and sexual exploitation, with a focus on engaging with our urban Aboriginal
communities, while the other will focus on trends and issues related to
indoor sex work and sexual exploitation. While fulfilling the intent of
the Inquiry recommendation, the staff will support the City’s comprehensive
approach to addressing these issues through prevention and awareness,
promoting safety and health for all residents, supporting access to
services and supports, and aligning and coordinating our regulation and
enforcement efforts.
We would also very much appreciate you distributing the postings widely
throughout your networks. Applications can be made on line or submitted
to our Human Resource Department up to and including November 27th (the
address is provided on the posting).
