thankyou to everyone who attended the pot luck last night! what an amazing time and an amazing host miss lux!!

i have attached the reports i showed to you all last night and would like to expand on a couple of things in terms of people's input. there are alot of holes in the report and if people want to brainstorm or have any ideas to fill these gaps, it would be most appreicated. for example, youth and the age of workers allowed to work in massage parlours, should it be 18 or 19 years old. as well as how can we engage youth in this dialogue and hear what they think would work to support their safety. maybe we need to plan a youth only meeting, run by youth....any input would be awesome.

also, foreign or migrant workers, how can we best support their safety while they work in canada? how can we engage to ensure they know what their rights are and what business practices are best here....?

also, the governance of our industry. if we want self governance , what would that look like? we have proposed an industry association and accreditation of businesses and workers in a non mandatory "serving it right" style of health and safety training and complaints process through a "self regulatory board" to indentify and challenge bad business practices?

who would be on that board? would it be rotating chairs with different people all the time to prevent corruption? a system of number identification of businesses to prevent bias during the complaints process? again? any input or suggestions are appreciated!

here are the links to our web sites/blogs/

www.wccsip.ca
www.tradesecretsguide.blogspot.com - this is proposed occupational health and safety training, please feel free to add your knowledge and experience here, that's why we made it a blog!!
www.bccec.wordpress.com this is a number of reports developed by the bccec over the years and intended to provide the evidence for change we are seeking inside the city here. all of our work adheres to the "tri council policy statement" governing research involving human beings, more specifically, confidentiality is protected, supoorts provided, honorarium and direction by sex workers in terms of direction of that work.

if you have any questions about the information you find there, please feel free to ask! as well as if you are uncomfortable sending your responses/concerns/ideas over this list, you can email me privately also.

as i said last night, there will be opportunities to attend consultations/meetings about the work of the task force and contribute to the final outcomes.

and about the meeting in february, we will definitly keep you informed about the where's and when's of that and look forward to great outcomes in the meetings as well.

also, i wanted to metnion once again, the honoring the truth event happening on the 25th;

Vancouver sex workers and allies host a public reading:

WOULDN’T PISS ON THEM IF THEY WERE ON FIRE
How Discrimination Against Sex Workers, Drug Users and Aboriginal Women Enabled A Serial Killer

Report of the Independent Counsel to the Commissioner of the Missing Women Commission of Inquiry, Jason Gratl

The Independent Counsel’s report provides a powerful record of the extreme level of discriminatory treatment of sex workers by British Columbia’s justice and political system. The report unflinchingly describes the lethal stereotypes and beyond callous attitudes of those individuals and institutions who profoundly failed to protect Vancouver sex workers from violence and death.

thanks again to everyone and i look forward to hearing from you soon!

love susie
