Hello everyone!

I am pleased to announce that Mercy For Animals at OSU is now in full
swing! As you may already know, our goal is to promote animal rights by
doing outreach on the horrors animals suffer in factory farms and
slaughterhouses, advocating for vegetarian and vegan diets, and helping
to build a vegetarian and animal-friendly community at OSU. This e-mail
is to let you know about our upcoming events, volunteer opportunities,
and our progress on becoming a recognized group

*October Events*

Here are MFA at OSU's upcoming activities for October.

*Vegan Leafleting on the Oval: Tues., Oct. 23 from 11:45 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.*

Meet in front of Hagerty Hall (1775 College Rd. meet at the entrance
facing the North Oval) and hand out literature detailing our reasons for
a compassionate diet.

*Vegan Dine-Out at Northstar Cafe: Mon., Oct. 29 at 7:00 p.m.*

Interested in meeting other individuals with a similar desire to end
animal suffering? Then join Mercy For Animals for a vegan dinner at
Northstar Café (951 N. High St., Columbus)! The place has ridiculously
good vegan dishes for about $8 that are certain to stand up to any
discerning taste! Dinner is Dutch, so bring your money. Carpooling is
available. If you need a ride, RSVP me by Friday, Oct. 26. Carpoolers
will meet at 115 w. 10^th Avenue at 6:30 p.m. If anyone needs directions
or more information, please email me at DylanTL at MercyForAnimals.org
<mailto:DylanTL at MercyForAnimals.org> or call 740-624-2392 and ask for
Dylan.

*Vegan Leafleting on the Oval: Wednesday, Oct. 31 from 11:45 a.m. to
12:30 p.m.*

Leafleting on the Oval - meet in front of Hagerty Hall

*Free Vegan Dinner and Talk: Wed. Oct. 31 from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m.*

Celebrate Halloween by joining Mercy For Animals for a delicious free
vegan dinner followed by a presentation and book signing by Erin
Williams, co-author of the newly-released /Why Animals Matter: The Case
for Animal Protection/. Her book examines how animal abuse is often
hidden behind the simple, everyday choices we make, while describing
humane alternatives. It also reveals the links between animal
protection, environmental, and social justice issues. The event will be
at the Columbus Metropolitan Library downtown (96 S. Grant Ave.). If
anyone needs a ride, please RSVP me at DylanTL at MercyForAnimals.org
<mailto:DylanTL at MercyForAnimals.org>by Mon., Oct. 29 so carpooling can
be coordinated.

*Get Active!*

Do you want to help plan and organize MFA at OSU's activities? Then join
MFA's organizing e-mail list. This is where MFA's core members
strategize how to get more vegan options at the cafeterias, coordinate
bringing speakers to campus, plan protests, and orchestrate writing
pro-animal letters to /The Lantern/, and more! You can request to join
by contacting Freeman at FreemanW at MercyForAnimals.org
<mailto:FreemanW at MercyForAnimals.org> from the e-mail address you would
like added to the list.

Another great way to get involved is to volunteer at the Mercy For
Animals' headquarters located just a few blocks above Lane Ave. in the
North Campus neighborhood. MFA always need people to help with making
calls, updating our databases, packing and shipping literature and
merchandise, writing letters to the editor, online activism, and a host
of other activities. Training for all activities is provided. To
schedule a time to volunteer, contact Freeman at
FreemanW at MercyForAnimals.org <mailto:FreemanW at MercyForAnimals.org> or at
614-256-7959.

*Vegetarianism in /The Lantern/*

We've done a great job of making vegetarianism a topic of discussion in
/The Lantern/ . Be sure to check out the articles and leave supportive
comments after them so they know OSU students want to see more articles
like these:

*MFA at OSU Announces Our New Faculty Advisor*

We'd also like to send a huge thank you to Dr. Irfan Nooruddin,
Professor of Political Science, who has signed on as faculty advisor for
Mercy For Animals at OSU. We are happy that such a model faculty member
has joined us to help create a humane and just world for animals.

With Dr. Nooruddin's help, MFA at OSU is now a registered and recognized
student group, making organizing on campus even easier. So show up to
some of our events, join the organizing e-mail list, volunteer at MFA
HQ, or contact me if you want to get more involved with MFA at OSU.
These are great ways to get involved and make a difference for farmed
animals.

Thanks to all of you who have signed the mailing list, talked with us,
come to meetings, and helped out with events – with your help this year
will be incredibly fun and productive!

Sincerely,

Dylan Taylor-Lehman

President, MFA at OSU
