INSIDE JOB , an academy award winner, is the first film to provide a
comprehensive analysis of the global financial crisis of 2008, which at a
cost over $20 trillion, caused millions of people to lose their jobs and
homes in the worst recession since the Great Depression, and nearly
resulted in a global financial collapse. Through exhaustive research and
extensive interviews with key financial insiders, politicians,
journalists, and academics, the film traces the rise of a rogue industry
which has corrupted politics, regulation, and academia. It was made on
location in the U.S.A., Iceland, England, France, Singapore and China.
This film will shock and enrage you. Refreshments and discussion
afterwards

Saturday, May 7, 10 a.m.

FOOD, Inc., How much do we know about the food we buy at our local
supermarkets and serve to our families? Our national food supply is now
controlled by a handful of corporations that often put profit ahead of
consumer health, the livelihoods of farmers, the safety of workers and the
environment. . Though our food appears the same--a tomato still looks like
a tomato, but it has been radically transformed.

In this Oscar-nominated film the producer and investigative authors lift
the veil on the food industry. After seeing this film, you will never look
at your dinner the same way.

THE NEW AMERICAN CENTURY . This film explores the historical,
philosophical and economic background that suggests a matrix for such
events as 9/11, that is much closer to home than the so-called “Islamic
terrorism”. The film provides solid evidence for the true reasons behind
the Afghanistan and Iraq wars, whose unfolding is described in chilling
detail in a document called “Project for the New American Century”
published in 2000, which seems to have served as the actual blueprint for
these dramatic events.

11:30 a.m.

GUNS FOR HIRE With their existing armies overstretched, Britain and
America rely heavily on mercenary forces. In this film, former war
reporter, Sam Kiley, investigates the shadowy world of the modern soldier
of fortune.

AFGHANISTAN: DRUGS, GUNS AND MONEY This film follows the journey of opium
crops, tracing the drug trafficking routes heading north from Afghanistan
through the nations of the Old Silk Road on its way to Europe. The film
examines who are the winners and losers as the crop finds its way to
market. . How much of a problem is it for the U.S. and its allies that
many are implicated in one of the most lucrative drug routes in the world.
The awesome beauty of the landscape provides a powerful backdrop for the
treachery uncovered each step of the way.

1:30 p.m.

WITH GOD ON OUR SIDE - This film takes a look at the theology of Christian
Zionism which teaches that Jews have the divine right to the land of
Israel. Aspects of this belief system leads some Christians in the West to
give uncritical support to Israeli government policies even at the expense
of the Palestinians. This leads to great suffering among Christian and
Muslim Palestinians, threatening Israeli security. There is a biblical
alternative for those who want to love and support the people of Israel, a
theology that instead doesn’t favour one people over another, but promotes
peace and reconciliation for both Jews and Palestinians.

CRUDE - THE REAL PRICE OF OIL - This film Chevron doesn’t want you to see.
This is an award-winning film that chronicles the epic battle to held
Chevron (formerly Texaco) accountable for the systematic contamination of
the Ecuadorian Amazon - an environmental tragedy experts call the
“Rainforest Chernobyl”

3.00 p.m.

WIKI REBELS By Swedish television. This film is an exclusive rough-cut
in-depth documentary which covers the organization of Wikileaks, from its
inception, its development and its recent leaks of documents into the
media. Its coverage details the allegation of sexual misconduct of Julian
Assange, the editor-in-chief and media-spokesperson for the organization,
plus the dissent caused by his heavy-handed control of the group,
resulting in the formation of “Open Leaks”

ACTS OF TRANSFORMATION - WAR TOYS TO PEACE ART - This short film documents
students, teachers and community members telling about why they wanted to
transform violent toys and video games into peaceful art.

THE COCO COLA CASE - You’ll never look at a can of Coke the same way after
seeing this documentary. The directors present a searing indictment of the
Coco Cola empire and its alleged kidnapping, torture and murder of union
leaders trying to improve working conditions in Columbia, Guatemala and
Turkey. The filmmakers follow labour rights lawyers and an activist as
they attempt to hold the giant U.S. multinational company accountable in
this legal and human right’s battle.
