STOP THE DELAYS!
GENUINE AID FOR
HAITI NOW!
DEMAND ACCOUNTABILITY OF CANADIAN
GOVERNMENT, MEDIA, AND
AID AGENCIES!
RALLY IN VANCOUVER: MONDAY APRIL 12, 4:30 PM
Corner of
GEORGIA ST. AND HAMILTON ST.
(OFFICES OF THE CANADIAN INTERNATIONAL
DEVELOPMENT AGENCY AND THE CBC)
Haiti's January 12 earthquake is the
largest humanitarian crisis ever known in the western hemisphere. Three
months later, most victims still do not have adequate shelter, food, water
and medical treatment.
At international conferences on Haiti's
reconstruction, much is said of respecting Haiti's sovereignty and working
with its government. But foreign governments, including Canada, have
conspired against Haiti's sovereignty for many years and undermined elected
governments committed to social justice.
Canada's government, media and
many of its aid agencies are doing too little to inform the public of the
dire situation in Haiti. Canadians have little public accounting of where,
or whether, their generous donations and tax dollars are being spent in
Haiti.
CANADIANS DEMAND:
* SHELTER FOR VICTIMS NOW! * MORE
ACCOUNTABILITY * FREE MEDICAL CARE TO ALL HAITIANS * DEMILITARIZATION OF
AID

Since 1971,
Vancouver Status of Women has engaged women in vision and struggle to
achieve full participation in political, social and economic life. We
believe in creating healthy, joyful and liberated feminist community. We
provide critical information, resources, advocacy and capacity-building
training to support women's self-determination.
Recently, VSW suffered
major funding cuts devastating to our ability to continue our work.
Why
and how did these cuts happen? Who is affected? What can we do as a
community to protect essential community programs and services?
Come and
hear organizers, facilitators, community members, volunteers, program
participants and allies speak about their experiences with VSW, and share
your own ideas!
GET INFORMED. GET MOBILIZED. GET INSPIRED.
We ask you
to consider donating or becoming a member of VSW even if you are unable to
attend.

Title: TAR ANGEL
Dare: April 17, 2010
Time: 1:30 to 5:00 p.m
(including a reception)
Place: Pacific Cinematheque
#200-1131 Howe
Street (at Helmcken), Vancouver
Tickets: $20.00 per person ($15.00 for
students) including snacks and
refreshments
ADALA is pleased to announce
the showing of the award-winning Canadian movie
'Tar Angel' by Denis
Chouinard, on the afternoon of Saturday, April 17,
2010. Proceeds from the
event will be allocated to help sponsor one
Palestinian refugee family to
immigrate to Canada from Al-Hol camp in Syria.
The movie deals with the
experience of an immigrant Arab family in Quebec,
going through challenges
that come with leaving a familiar home for an
unfamiliar, but promising,
new home.
Palestinian refuges at Al-Hol camp can only hope to build a
different life
and future for their children and themselves if they are
able to immigrate
to another country. No Arab country is willing to take
these refugees,
whose second diaspora started in 2006 after the invasion
and the subsequent
violence that engulfed Iraq. For some, the first
diaspora was their
forceful eviction from Palestine when Israel was
created.
Vancouver based organizations have so far sponsored four
families from that
camp, located on a no-man's land on the Syrian side of
the Iraqi-Syrian
border. A large number of families are still awaiting
help from the
outside world, in the hope of moving on. These Palestinian
families are in a
dire and desperate situation , living in sub-humane
conditions and it is our
moral duty to do what we can to help.
It is
often said that no one was born a REFUGEE - we may add: no one should
remain a REFUGEE - this is our collective responsibility.
We look forward
to seeing you at this important social event.
To purchase tickets or for
information on the event, please contact
or .
Donations of $30 or
more will receive tax deduction receipts. These checks
should be made to
UCV (or Unitarian Church of Vancouver). The donor's full
name and address
should be provided. The memo line can state "Palestinian
refugees".
