      Dear Andrew,



      Yesterday, after more than a month of cheap shots and delay tactics, Chuck Hagel was confirmed as the next Secretary of Defense. 

      In the end, all of the cynical maneuvers from Lindsey Graham and other Republicans to please their friends at AIPAC and the Emergency Committee on Israel failed.

      I assume that, like me, you won't like everything Hagel does over the next four years - including positions he'll almost certainly take on US policy toward Israel and Palestine.  


      But the fact remains: this was an unprecedented rebuke to the Israel Lobby.  Secretary Hagel is probably the highest ranking official ever appointed not simply without the Lobby's approval, but in spite of an all-out opposition campaign.  And you were a big part of making that happen.  

      We obviously still have a lot of work to do. AIPAC's power in DC is still a national embarrassment. Republicans and Democrats alike continue to run from realistic conversation on this issue. But together, we proved that the tide is turning.  And that is something we can - and will - build upon.
