Subject: SFoP: diary entry - Deir Yassin
For your diary
9th April is the 65th anniversary of the massacre at the peaceful Palestinian village of Deir Yassin.
It was perpetrated by the terrorist Irgun gang with the active cooperation of the nascent regular Israeli army. It was an act of terror and seminal event which helped precipitate the flight to safety for hundreds of thousands of Palestinians as they sought to avoid "their Deir Yassin."
Twenty five years ago a commemorative plaque was laid for Scottish Friends of Palestine by the then Lord Provost of Glasgow, Bob Gray, in Kelvingrove Park - to the side and rear of the Art Gallery and Museum.
This year the commemoration will take place on Sunday 7th April 12 noon with the participation of Deir Yassin survivor, Abdallah Eid, who, as a four year old was present at the slaughter of family members.
Also present will be the current Lord Provost of Glasgow, Cllr Sadie Docherty.
Please make every effort to attend and circulate widely. Thanks.
