Hey everyone, sorry for leaving this until now, i only just got back
from my trip and mostly had poor or no wfi access.

so just checking to see if we are continuing the book club tomorrow
tuesday the 14th like we had agreed. i can make it, but i havent had
the chance to finish chapter 1 yet should have most of it done for
tomorrow.

stefan, is spartacus still ok as a venue?

Also for the sap folks, we are wondering if sap is still interested in
coordinating this group, we've had poor attendance from sap members
for the last few meetings.

oh also, darren pointed out that andrea smith is on campus at ubc jan
24th friday at noon. anyone want to go as a book club field trip? im
sure our group has some good questions that we can get answered from
andrea smith directly. there also other events in the series worth
attending, info and link below.

hope everyone had a great winter break,
u

Keynote Speech : Decolonizing the Anti-Violence Movement

Friday, January 24, 12:00pm, Sty-Wet-Tan Great Hall, UBC First Nations
Longhouse; 1985 West Mall

Join us for lunch and an engaging lecture by Andrea Smith, regarding
“Decolonizing the Anti-Violence Movement”.

Andrea Smith is an academic, feminist, and anti-violence activist.
Smith's work focuses on issues of violence against women of colour and
their communities, specifically Native American women. This talk will
focus on how the anti-violence movement often strengthens rather than
challenges state violence. It will explore alternative possibilities
for addressing gender violence that do not primarily rely on state or
other forms of institutional support.

Registration required. RSVP to women.students at ubc.ca by end of day
Tuesday, January 21st.

Sponsored by UBC’s Access & Diversity, The First Nations House of
Learning and the Jane Rule Endowment Fund.
