hi all. here are some notes i took after the SAP presentation aylon and i
made at the bookfair.
The form of the presentation was problematic. people felt that it was too
academic in tone, and that it was a problem that it was two men speaking.
this was regarded as an instance of patriarchy rather than a challenge to
it.
There was concern that such a group could function as a hiding place for
misogynists.
such a group takes up space for women, rather than making space.
women aren't a homogeneous group that one can be in solidarity with.
"there is no ministry of patriarchy that one can oppose"
rather than a group, it should be action, a dedication to working with
women, rather than for women.
speaking / acting with, rather than speaking / acting for.
some people said they were glad we were trying to do this work.
one person said that she could think of men she knew who needed to be in
the group.
in general, it was the form of the workshop itself and the form of the
organization of the group that was most problematic.
