Hi SAP,
Hope everyone had a good book club meeting today for the book *Conquest:
Sexual Violence and American Indian Genocide*, by Andrea Smith.
I have been having many conversations lately about the need for UBC
administration to address the gendered aspect of sexualized violence, if
they are going to acknowledge that sexualized violence is systemic as
suggested by the idea of "rape culture." Speaking to the gendered aspect of
sexualized violence is in fact exposing misogyny and patriarchy, which I
see to be very connected to SAP's work.
I have CC'd PrideUBC and Our City Of Colours here because I wish to invite
more community groups into a discussion about the inequities of violence.
I want to know if SAP and other non-women-only spaces that may have an
anti-violence and feminist understanding open up space to talk about other
systemic aspects of violence.
As this email touches on sexualized violence, I have decided to save most
of its content in a Word document so people have the choice to engage or
disengage.
Thank you,
Carven
