Hi Reg,
This is great! Yes, we've been seeing all the Men's Rights stuff happening
with much alarm. I'm so happy to hear that men are organizing to respond to
this. We do have grants available for community initiatives. The next
deadline is February 28th and there is up to $1000 available. You can read
more info and download application forms here:
http://sfpirg.ca/research-resources/grants.
We can also support by booking rooms for you at Harbour Centre, some of
which are free. In order to do that, you can email my colleague Craig
Pavelich at admin at sfpirg.ca with all the event details and what you're
looking for - name, date & time of event, size of room needed, any
equipment needed, etc. We no longer have a budget to pay for room bookings,
but if you book through us we can get you the internal SFU rate which is
much cheaper. However, as I mentioned some of the classrooms are free.
Craig does need reasonable advance notice to book a room since the demand
for rooms is quite high and they book up quickly.
We also have a critical masculinity series happening at SFPIRG and there
are some men who are actively engaged in working to be allies against
patriarchy. Please pass on whatever develops as there might be people here
who would want to get involved.
Hope this is a helpful start. If there's anything else we can do, let me
know! I've also cc'ed my colleagues Craig & Kalamity so they're up to speed
with this.
Happy New Year by the way! I hope life is treating you well.
Best,
- Shahaa
