Hi all,

I wanted to bring your attention to a problem at the social spaces summit.
I've copied and pasted and email that a friend of mine sent them.

Hello,

I'm writing you to let you know that I am not going to be attending the
Summit this weekend. I am currently reaching out to other members of
my organization, to see if there is anyone who is interested in taking my
spot so that people from [redacted] can still come to share and learn. I
will let you know if anyone steps forward.

I will not be attending in large part because I am deeply uncomfortable
discussing the creation of social justice spaces in a completely physically
inaccessible venue. Hosting an event about social justice and radical
spaces in an inaccessible space leaves out important voices from our
communities, and is frankly, kind of ironic.

At the very least, accessibility information for ALL of the physical spaces
that this event will be taking place in need to be sent out to
participants, and posted on the website/Facebook events. The email that I
received made it clear that people are coming from out of town to this
event and very well may have diverse accessibility needs. The accessibility
information should have been a part of that email.

I am open to talking about this further.

----------

They responded with a message along the lines of - thanks for your input,
we are trying the best we can.

I would like it if the group could bring up this issue at the meeting so
that everyone is aware how not okay that the social spaces summit is not
accessible.

Thanks folks,
Aylon
