Minutes of meeting oct. 14

*Discussion of Social Spaces Summit workshop, sunday oct. 21 afternoon /
eve.

What do we want to talk about? Patriarchy as it functions systemically and
interpersonally in the communities / spaces in which we work. It will be
organized as a roundtable discussion. we will talk first about our group
and our experiences with these issues. we will try to address three
questions, and invite participants to do the same: 1) Can you talk about an
experience of being "called out" on your own sexist  / patriarchal
behaviour? 2) What is / has been your role in creating "safer spaces"
against sexism / patriarchy? How can you improve your efforts? 3) What have
you done or are you doing outside of radical / organizing spaces and
communities to dismantle sexism / patriarchy? at school, for example, or at
work?

Reg and david will takes notes. Chris will facilitate if he is able to
attend, peter will facilitate if no one else can or will. Kenan will keep
speaker's list.

we will also have info and other material to distribute, reg will make
stapled booklets of some of our readings to distribute.

*What next?

1) Info tables at events, providing pamphlets etc.

2) bottom-line organizing to highlight women-identified voices in the
community. by "bottom line", we mean finding spaces, fundraising, set-up,
info and distro, and related leg-work.

Invite women-identified folks from (primarily the local) community to talk
about what the movement needs to do to deal with it's own patriarchy, and
in general.

need to be aware of the politics of feminist organizing and its
differences, for example around the question of trans-exclusion, positions
with regard to sex work, etc.

Names for possible invite: Jessica Yee, Roberta Jensen, Fathima Jaffer,
Vikki Reynolds, Andrea Smith, Meaghan Murphy, Grassroots Women.

This event would take place after Dec. 12, sometime around dec. 14-15. All
group members are invited to give some thought to who would be good to
invite.

Harjap and david will look into venues for this event.

*Basis of Unity. We read the draft of the basis of unity and made some
changes. B of U will be sent to reg for grammar check and distributed to
the group for further revision.

NEXT MEETING: Harjap to book Mosaic for next meeting, three weeks from now.
