Deputy sheriff charged in child prostitution
By COLIN McDONALD of the Missoulian
A Powell County deputy sheriff has been charged with aggravated promotion of prostitution involving a child.
A criminal complaint filed Tuesday against William Henry alleges that he promoted the prostitution of a young male from 2002 to 2004.
The complaint was filed by Powell County Attorney Christopher Miller.
Henry is being held in jail on a $250,000 cash bond.
Powell County Sheriff Scott Howard said he learned of the matter after a disclosure was made by the alleged victim.
The investigation is being handled by the Montana Department of Justice's Division of Criminal Investigation.
"There is no way we can conduct the investigation," Howard said Friday. "It would just be a conflict."
Henry, 40, of Garrison, has been suspended without pay pending resolution of the charges against him.
"It's not a closed book," Howard said. "I do foresee more charges coming down."
At this time, the investigation is focused on Henry and does not involve the sheriff's department, Howard said.
Henry has served as a deputy for Powell County since May 2000, according to Howard. Before becoming a deputy, Henry worked at the Montana State Prison in Deer Lodge as a guard.
The case will be prosecuted by state Chief Criminal Counsel John Connor. Henry has not yet entered a plea.
