The combination of all the global factors, making oil as a target a
worthwhile radical strategy EVERYWHERE, will soon give us the greatest
ability to maneuver our undermining of this genocidal, ecocidal disaster
leading us today.

I couldn't agree more. Oil is the foundation of our economy and a central
premise of America's economic, military, and foreign policy. As these
considerations converge, control of energy policy will become more apparent
as the lever of power dictating how the world will be governed in the 21st
century. It is also the last, best hope of radicalizing a broader part of
the progressive community and "progressivizing" more of mainstream society.

This strategy-- destroying global market stability while a dwindling
fossil fuel collapses imperialist society itself-- might seem apocalyptic,
but it might also be the best thing that has ever come our way since the
devastation of WW1 made clear the need for revolution.

It is apocalyptic, but such is the world we live in today. Casualty
projections of overshooting our resource restraints are in the billions
(yes, billions - see www.dieoff.org<http://www.dieoff.org/>). Extinction is a plausible outcome of
history's current trajectory. That's not meant to be defeatist, merely
realistic. Like Macdonald, I view it more as an opportunity. The status
quo simply cannot continue much longer.

However, I would like to point out that "imperialist society" refers to us
and the rest of the industrialized world. It is our umbilical cord, our
life support system. Yes, it's going down the drain, but it's poised to
take us with it. I'm not aiming to be the last man standing on the pile of
rubble that was once America saying "I told you so". Our opportunity, as
presented by the pending oil crash, lies only in our ability to recognize
it, organize against it, and prevent it. Otherwise, we're just as fucked as
everyone else.

Peace,
David Chege
