LIKE TWO RIVERS INTO A COFFIN
Instruments of sound and disquiet in Palestine
A Recollecting the Document Project
WHEN:
Tuesday, Dec. 12th, 2006 at 8pm
WHERE:
La Sala Rossa
4848 St-Laurent
Montreal (Metro Laurier)
Through a live reconstruction of documentary objects in quadraphonic
sound, silent video, moving sculpture, and multiple live music
performances the Recollecting the Document collective seeks to
explore the cultural space in which documentary lives and is live.
Recollecting the Document is a collective of media and social justice
activists, documentarists, musicians, artists - in short: community
members from Montreal engaged in active struggle for autonomous
media. We seek to confront and oppose the dominant politics of
representation, whose images and sounds are consistently complicit to
a bankrupt foreign policy and a genocidal national program on Turtle
Island. We seek to redefine and overthrow institutional definitions
of so-called journalistic bias in favor of an open and transparent
advocacy journalism. We reject our role as passive consumers of
vanguard media, and are instead authors and listeners, responsible to
our local communities and global citizenship.
