[Sdalliance] new action committee? (was Re: CRSD Outreach and SDRA H meeting Friday)

Bo, the notes are not too clear, but the names listed for 'rapid response' were just nominations for how we might set up a 'phone tree' to rapidly contact each of the CRSD member orgs and committees if we had a situation where we didn't want to risk it taking too long for people to read an urgent email. I volunteered to act as one who would initiate the 'tree' upon request. We probably do need a proposal for this 'tree' process, for the member orgs to consider/ratify. The above is not of the scope of the idea of the sdrah becoming an open campaign committee of CRSD. That proposal is 'on the table' at sdrah. Therefore it could be problematic for CRSD to push ahead with setting up such a committee on our own, without sdrah first deciding if they want to do it. Of course, CRSD could do it, but would we need the member orgs to agree on that first? especially if sdrah has not yet decided for or against the idea of becoming that committee? I don't think we should wait until next Sunday (if there is this meeting you propose) to carry out our promise to send sdrah people copies of our CRSD documents. If an ad hoc committee of CRSD members is wanting to have a meeting next Sunday to talk with interested non-members about 'rapid response' work, and talking about writing up a proposal for that, is it a proposal to be ratified by CRSD or to submit to sdrah? It is great that so many new people are wanting to get something going along these lines, and want to do it with CRSD. Let's think through how ? mk

 meeting Friday)

OK, I reread the notes and looks like we agreed to have me, Eric, Jose, Monty, Yesi, and maybe Lydia as an ad hoc committee separate from the outreach work. I had gotten the 2 confused.

As of now I have 15 people from the past several weeks' organizing interested in attended a meeting to continue sustained anti-fascist, anti-racist organizing at 10am Sunday. Almost all of them not yet members of any organization. I suggested a meeting length of 90 min.

Would Eric, Jose, Monty, Yesi, and maybe Lydia be able to join us? I figure we can work out with these 15 what kind of work we see a need for and then create an open committee proposal to submit to CRSD.

Do folks have ideas about where we can meet? Would it be possible to get the Brown Building open earlier?

Thanks and solidarity,

Bo

P.S. it might make sense to limit the committee to domestic state and vigilante violence. I feel like an anti-war committee might be another thing...

Thank you Monty and Yesi for your work. I think it would make sense to propose a committee tomorrow at SDRAH for

responding rapidly to

and

keep events safe (specifically but not necessarily exclusively) from

state and vigilante violence

in the way that we did on Sunday. I think it makes sense to say that we'd love to have such a committee become a part of CRSD, but unless people are very interested in getting into such details tomorrow, save discussion of details and process etc for a future meeting of such a committee. We can have any very interested people join the two of you in the writing process this weekend. How does that sound?

Thanks and solidarity,

So then we need somebody still to put together something for the sdrah meeting Friday evening ? We could propose something like this excerpt from the event call, as a statement of purpose for a new CRSD Open Campaign Committee:
"We have seen fascists and racists show their faces in the past few months: at the rally in Huntington Beach a few months ago, at the Impeachment March at the beginning of July, and then we all saw the horror of the hoods-off “Unite the Right” Rally in Charlottesville, and the deadly aftermath. Enough is enough! We will not stand by while fascists, Klansman, Nazis, Identitarians, the Proud Boys, and the Aryan Brotherhood walk in our streets, and intimidate, harass, belittle, or hurt peaceful protesters. We will come together and unite our movements against the racists and fascists who seek to divide us, and belittle and destroy our culture of inclusivity, empathy, and tolerance.

"...San Diego will stand up to hate and bigotry! We, as a diverse community of working people, people of color, Indiginous People, immigrants and refugees, gay, bi, and trans people, concerned parents and students, Jews, Muslims, Christians, and people of all faiths, and centrists, liberals, and leftists alike -- we will not allow violent right-wing fascists, Nazis, the Klan, or any of their horrible ilk take over our cities, towns, bars, places of worship, or campuses." We could share the definition of our open campaign committees, from our CRSD structure document, along with our mission statement ? Not sure how much detail about CRSD docs makes sense for this meeting. Probably not all our docs at this meeting? mk

correction: ad hoc committee for outreach proposal is Justin, Yesi, Lace, Monty.

Per the meeting notes, Yesi, Lace, me, you? were to work on the outreach proposal. I would like us to meet this week. Assuming that the sdrah crowd mostly wants to stick together and mostly wants to do more similar actions (big assumptions) then it ought to be simple to adapt the sdrah announcement of the purpose of the rally/march to form a committee proposal. If there arose any opposition to sdrah voting as a bloc to form such a committee, we might want to form it anyway, and invite whoever does like it. mk

I think this is exactly the right thing to do, Monty. Maybe we can write up a short pitch for the SDRAH crowd that could double as a proposal to charter an Open Committee at the next CRSD delegate meeting? Who was it that was gonna work on the proposal (I think I was one of the ppl)?

It won't be time enough for CRSD to approve our next outreach campaign, before the follow-up meeting this Friday, for the San Diego Rally Against Hate. However, our orgs were well represented in the sdrah planning meetings. So, do we want to make some effort to state our case for the "next move" of the sdrah folks to logically be to consider affiliation with CRSD? propose that they make sdrah into a CRSD Open Campaign Committee? OR do we sit it out and wait for the next time we have a good opportunity to grow CRSD?
