Subject: [Iww-list] Update on Catalonia from CNT WOOOW, things are now getting complicated. Yesterday's events were all over international media, so I won't comment on them. But at night, a coallition of the major reformist unions, nationalist associations and parties, and even the chamber of business owners (the bosses) joined the call for a general strike on the 3rd. Only not quite so...They are calling for a "paro cco", not a proper strike, but an all-class-encompassing stoppage. This puts us in a difficult situation. It had never happened before that the larger unions join an intiative of ours. It' usuallly the opposite, and the radical unions are just a sidenote on the larger ones' movilisation, trailing behind in the demo...Of course, their aim is to steal the show. They know that after yesterday's events, days of unrest are coming, and they are in no way ready to loose contol over the whole thing. Only a few days ago, they dismissed the idea of a general strike. Now they join the call, but to make things clear and mark the distance, they tone it down to something more palatable to the bosses and ruling elites. On the one hand, this makes it likely that the strike is going to be a success. On the other one, this effectively sidelines us. Only that not so much as you'd expect. Of course, now the large media are talking about the strike (which they didn't do before), but they don't mention us at all. Well, nothing new there, it's always like that. There's going to be a masive demo in Barcelona in the evening and I assure you, we won't be giving the speeches. But we are well ahead of them in terms of putting out propaganda, preparing for the strike, attending meetings calling for it, etc. Will this make any difference?. I don't know. Our calls for the strike have been on social media for days and people have been active sharing them, our posters are the only ones up on town's walls, comrades have been talking about the strike on local radios...As I said, this has never happened before and we don't know what comes next. Only a few weeks ago even comrades of ours were eskeptical about the strike, CGT were tearing themselves apart about calling for it the way they did, large unions were dismissing the idea, etc. Now everyone's on that page. I can only say that we'll try to do our best and decide what's more coherent with our revolutionary aims at every turn of the situation. We'll keep you posted.[Received from CNT International Secretary]
