[Sdalliance] How will you observe May 1st General Strike?

 Fellow Workers, Friends,  Representing more than 100 local unions in our region, the San Diego-Imperial Counties Labor Council  http://www.unionyes.org/  has responded to the calls for a General Strike on May 1st, 2017. The Labor Council calls on each union to participate in any way it can. This is truly an historic moment! The same migrant and immigrant constituency that struck eleven years ago on May 1, 2006 will mobilize this year, joined by the Black Lives Matter movement, native sovereignty rights groups, and organizations Voces de La Frontera and Movimiento Cosecha. May 1st is International Workers Day, also known as May Day. It is a worldwide holiday and day of protest which started in Chicago in 1886. A number of unions have called for people to strike.  The Labor Council advises people can also participate in a broad range of other ways:-- Take the day off! Take a vacation day, sick day, or any other kind of paid time off
-- Petition your employer to close your office or business for the day-- Join a rally and march (see leaflet)-- Spread the word. Let your friends hear about May Day and have them join you.
