I got a call from someone that sounds like Tevi Amoro from the Spectator. Can someone call him? He wants to make a note on Friday’s Rally, 905-526-3264

Hey, I can send invitations to OPIRG and MMPJ. Do you have contact info for United Church?
Also, are we just inviting them to attend and forward the event in their networks, or are we also inquiring about whether they want to collaborate/participate/speak?

Hey Folks,
Here is the Link to fb event page. https://www.facebook.com/events/140525676301332/140525742967992/
Lets start promoting it.
Who do we want to approach to speak at it. I am thinking the Palestian Association who came to the last event. It might also be worth it to approach Mirna again. With the tenants organizing in Downtown Hamilton many are Somalian Would it be worth it to approach some there to speak or trying to contact someone freom the news report you said.
Also who is going to be media contact?
I am also going to send invite emails to Muslim Association of Hamilton, as well as a few union in the city. Can someone hit up OPIRG, MMPJ, United Church.
I'm sure I am forgetting lots of folks, but want to make sure we get started contacting people asap.
Cheers,
B

Hi folks,
I'm also available Tuesday night to talk (7:30 work for others?). I like the idea of a rally to fit in with the general call for 10 days of action from Refugees Welcome (Oct 9-19). I agree that doing something on the 9th (the night of artcrawl) will make the most impact. After doing this, it would be good to check in and see where this momentum is going to take us as a group (in terms of focus, projects, etc).
I also like the idea of linking to broader Islamophobia and to specific struggles going on in Hamilton. I know I've been really neglectful in sending out minutes from the last meeting, but here is an article on the case with the Somali woman facing deportation/detention we were talking about in the last meeting.

I will try and follow up with a couple people about the case and see where things are at (maybe someone will be able to speak to it at this rally.
talk soon,
Caitlin

Hey Folks,
So after the Die in on Thursday. We talked briefly about next steps.
On this coming Friday Oct 9th we will hold a Rally, depending on Numbers and who shows up at the rally we also talked about doing a mock border crossing down James St.
This might derail us but would we also be interested in making it a Refugees Welcome and No to Islamophobia rally? Myself I am really angry by the racist debates around the niquab, and how this gets folded into fear against refugees. It would be nice to articulate this in a rally.
So my proposal (if folks can respond by end of night Saturday so Sunday we can get the fb event up and emails out). We hold a rally Starting at 7:00 in Gore Park, and march up James St. to the Immigrant Statue in front of Liuna Hall.
If possible can folks skype on Tuesday Night? And we can keep our meeting on Thursday to hammer out the details.
The proposal for doing a border crossing we can talk about on Tuesday.
Cheers,
Blake
