Hey folks,
Here is the event description.
"There has been a lot of talk about refugees in Canada over the past months. Most if not all of the voices talking have not been refugees. On Dec 9th (location tba) come and hear from refugees who now reside in Hamilton. Hear about their experiences getting here and barriers they have faced. During the Election Trudeau committed to bringing 25000 Syrian refugees to Canada, and ending Canada aerial bombardment of Syria. After the terrorist attacks in Baghdad, Beirut and Paris, unwarranted fear and suspicion has been cast against refugees, leading to states barring refugees and many accusing them of terrorists. This has brought increased pressure on the Canadian Government to continue bombing and halt resettlement. It is necessary at this for the community to rally around the message, all refugees are welcome here!
To Call to Welcome Refugees is not a simple statement of humanitarianism but a political statement condemning war, and borders that kill and displace thousands. Together to can demand the Freedom to Move, to Stay and Return"
That being said, I am realizing that we only have two weeks to pull this off. With still no location, and not all the speakers confirmed. I wonder if people would want to hold off doing this event till January, we still keep working on it, but we make sure it is done right. For me this is even more important as we are making contact with local refugee communities, so I don't want to mess it up.
I think in the mean time we could plan a banner drop over the QEW, and maybe do some postering or stickering so there is at least a visual presence.
Thoughts on the description, and or the postponement?
In Soli,
Blake
