Hi folks,

So we've probably all been seeing the awful stuff going around about refugees.  There is currently a really grotesque petition being circulated to call on libs to stop bringing in 25,000 before the end of the year.  NOII is working on a short statement and counter petition, but Blake and I were also thinking about what we could do here.  I've created a simple draft poster (attached here) and want to get your thoughts on printing these and either doing some guerrilla postering around the city (people from the Tower can help with this, I'm sure), or making them available so people can put them up themselves.  It's a small gesture, but still.

Anyway, what do folks think? I'm happy to edit as needed.

I've also attached the draft statement created by the RW network here for folks to look at and comment.  Please respond with any comments or concerns ASAP so that we can circulate this (by tonight, if possible).

Title: Tell Trudeau to Support Refugees

After the recent tragic events in Paris a number of calls are being made to ban refugees from coming to Canada. Three petitions have gathered almost 100,000 signatures. Across the world, governments are stating their intention to no longer meet international commitments towards Syrian refugees.

The only mosque in Peterborough, ON, was set on fire in an act of racial violence. We need to show that there are more of us who support opening borders to refugees. Humanity is indivisible. We reject any attempt by politicians to exploit these tragedies to fuel fear, hatred and more war. Now is the time to open our hearts, extend our hands and homes in welcome, and to work for peace. It is time to end the wars that create the conditions for these tragedies. The cost of one fighter jet and its refugee-creating bombs could help thousands of refugees to rebuild their lives.

Tell Justin Trudeau: Open the borders to all refugees seeking safety, overhaul the immigration system, end the wars.
