Hey everyone,

Meeting to plan an anti-capitalist and anti-authoritarian presence at The
Hamilton to Paris Climate rally - Nov 14 at 2pm at the tower!

Probably a lot of you know that Hamilton 350 and a coalition of other
groups have been planning a big rally on Nov 29, the day before the COP21
Climate Change conference opens in Paris. It's being organized in a pretty
neat way, responding to criticisms that were made of the March for Jobs
Justice and Climate back in July that was organized by 350.org.

They've been working with a bunch of groups from the area to co-ordinate
the march and trying to structure it to emphasize a plurality of voice -
the march itself doesn't have any messaging beyond "we want stuff to
happen about climate change at this conference". They are calling for
groups to organize their own mini-marches, rallying at different parts of
the downtown then converging at city hall for a big rally. The idea is
that this way, groups are shown as being distinct, with different
priorities, but with some common orientations and concerns.

I think this kind of decentralized approach that emphasizes grassroots is
pretty commendable and personally I want to support the mobilization. I
know a lot of you are planning on going as well. But can we take up the
challenge of the local organizers to put forward a different vision,
something beyond asking for a politican to take some kind of 'progressive'
action at a big schmoozy conference?

So yeah, let's organize an anti-capitalist, anti-authoritarian bloc to
march on city hall and join the convergence. And I'd be interested in
meeting in advance to flesh out an analysis and make some plans. Are you
interested?

Want to meet at 2pm on Saturday Nov 14 at The Tower to talk more? I have a
few ideas for messaging that I can offer as a starting point, but I'd love
to hear what you're thinking about.

I'm not going to post this meeting publicly, but please invite your
buddies who might be interested!

Thanks!
