Hey friends,

I've been trying to gather information on where different groupings and the
Liberal party folks are on this question of 25,000 refugees. Here's what
I've learned:

- Many provinces have had meetings between government and settlement
services to assess housing and healthcare that they have in the province to
house refugees - soon all will do them.

- A national meeting is planned soon coordinated by folks in BC.

- One of the key concerns coming up at this meetings is CIC delays with the
PSR processing because more Groups of 5 have been approved then there are
families that CIC has approved for sponsorship.

- The military has been asked to assess whether they can airlift 25,000
refugees (basically the Kosovo model).

- The push back from settlement and refugee support services is primarily
on the question of housing, as in there isn't enough housing available.
This is coming from rural agencies.

- There is a coordinated group of key liberal supporters that are working
to issue statements on behalf of immigration and refugee rights groups
calling for a 'slow down'. Though it is not certain that the Liberals will
not make the announcement. Basically different parts of the party and
supporters are divided on the question of 25K refugees by the end of the
year.

IMHO - We should be stressing 25K now, asking for more housing, possibly
coordinating with these people (http://www.refugees-welcome.ca/), and
bringing up Kosovo again and again.
