I can take on emailing Hodan.

I think now we should take on emailing the groups we said we would make contact with. Do we want to the fb group up now or after Christmas?

A couple other updates:
Tings is passing on our new date to NOII folks in TO, I will let folks know as soon as I hear back about who is able to speak.
The YWCA responded to the account and is going to donate space for the event!! They just need us to recognize them as a partner on the poster/material. (Thanks for doing this, Ajit!)
Sent a message to Carlos about helping us get another speaker for the event.
Now that we have more confirmed, I will work on a poster.

Hi folks,
I had a meeting with Carlos from the Colombian Refugee group.  He was very interested in helping us find a speaker for our event and helping with promotions through their networks.  I just need to send a more up to date call-out to him.  Are you guys still planning to meet? Can you finalize the call-out at this point, or should we just do it over email.  Also, January 13th sounds good to me - can we confirm that date?  
One thing Carlos mentioned was that they have access through their sponsors to getting space for events.  This might be an option for us, but it is also a bit challenging because they are sponsored by the Social Planning and Research Council which might have a problem with some of the particular lines that we take (as well, the SPRC likes to put their name on everything).  So I think it would be best for us to try and find our own space, but keep this as an option if needed.  On that note, Ajit do you need me to take on calling YWCA or other spaces?

Sorry for brevity.
I will most likely be at the rally on Friday, but do not feel like I can speak right now.
Sarah - The tower folks are happy to put up more posters, so if you want to get 50 more printed you can bring them on Saturday and I can take them over. Yes, I think contacting Hodon soon would be a good idea.
I am not available to meet on the 19th but think it is important for others to do so if possible.  I will send any updates I have beforehand.
Look forward to seeing you all on Saturday! (juice is great, is anyone able to get some fruit?)

Thank you Caitlin (and Yen) for sharing your thoughts. I'm so sorry for flaking out on Thursday. Sieve for brains some days, and Thursday was one of them. 

I took extensive notes on those Canadian Council for Refugees sessions I attended, and I'd be happy to share them if anyone is interested. I'd very much like to hear how the Sanctuary Cities talk went. At the final workshop on Friday, the SC session was spoken of highly. I wandered in to speak to you after the talk, Caitlin, but there were so many people up by the front table--a sign of a successful talk, for sure--that I didn't want to interrupt. 

I'm working at my cousin's printing shop this month (Thursdays and Fridays), so I'd be happy to print any more posters, although my own favourite things are stickers. Maybe when we have our new logo we can print some of those? Or maybe we can just print "refugees welcome" stickers for now? Let me know and I'd be happy to do it.

Any event held on December 11 I'd be unable to attend (see aforementioned printshop working schedule), but I support our support of it. 

Thank you for Hodon's contact information. Do you think I should contact her sooner rather than later about whether she'd be willing to speak at an event?

So because it was just me and Blake last night we didn't really have a meeting. Here are updates and thoughts from me...
At this point, we're probably not able to do an action of our own for the December 10th date, but I support endorsing the Dec 11 event - and I think it looks good.  If we're good with doing this, we can post the callout through FB and email this coming week.  Thanks for connecting about this, Ajit.
Event: From my end, updates are that Tings from NOII-TO will find us someone to speak at our event once we can set a date.  I also have a meeting with someone next week who has done work with Colombian refugees who might know someone who can participate.  Also, here is Hodon Ali's email (if you want to get in touch with her, Sarah) hodanali at yahoo.com or hodan at newcomerhealth.ca I am pretty open when it comes to dates in January - I'll let other people's schedules dictate though we should decide fairly soon.
I screwed up in getting back to the folks at Design Assign.  We are trying to reschedule for next Wednesday - I'll keep folks posted.  Really sorry about adding an unnecessary delay on that!
The tower has put up our posters and is happy to do more if we want.  Do folks want to? Is there other messaging we'd like to get out there (I can change the poster easily if we want to respond to other issues coming up - like the fact that libs are basically relying on private sponsored numbers to make up their commitments?).  If folks want to do this, let me know and I can send them to Sarah to get printed.
The CCR presentation went pretty well.  I met some folks from Victoria and Vancouver who look like they are doing some super solid work - hopefully more to come on those connections.
Okay, I think that is all from me for the moment. At least as far as work goes - fun email to follow shortly...:)
