Hi Blake
 
I received your email from Trustee Pattison and am happy to provide an answer to you.
 
At HWDSB we work with individual students and families to support a successful transition to one of our schools.  I would encourage the individual
 to contact the Assessment Centre so that the student(s) can be registered and supported in their entry to school.  Whether or not a student is qualified to be a pupil of a Board is an Education Act question and not dependent upon immigration status. 
 The fact that the child or the child's
 parents are unlawfully in Canada should not be a barrier to the child's admission. In other words, no children should be excluded from school merely because they or their parents are unlawfully living in Canada.  We do ask questions of families however to
 determine whether or not the family should be paying a fees for their child’s schooling (e.g. International Student).
 
In addition, we  also have a Settlement Worker located in the Assessment Centre who can provide support for the family in appealing the failed claim, expired
 status. etc.

Hi Larry,



I hope this finds you well. My name is Blake McCall and currently live in Ward 3. I am trying to find information on how the board deals with students who have precarious immigration status, such as those under refugee claim, failed refugee claimants, and or
 those without immigration status or have expired status.



TDSB, has very clear guidelines that any resident will have access to school without fear and am curious if HDWSB has something similar. If not how does the district deal with these circumstances.
