Hi folks,
I think a couple of you may have seen this already, but I wanted to pass it
along to the whole list. I would like to attend, and wanted to see if
there were others interested in or planning to go. I was going to raise
this at our meeting next week, but they are also asking for RSVP`s so I
though that might be pushing it a bit late if they are trying to book
space, etc.
Even if we as a group are not in a position to take on a lot of work at the
moment, I was thinking it would be good to go just to report back on
happenings and see where we are in terms of time commitments and other
internal work we have to get done. I'm also happy to be clear with the
folks at the visioning that as a coalition we're in the process of
re-grouping and maybe can't commit to too much at the moment. Anyway, like
I said, we can talk about this at our meeting I just wanted to see if folks
are okay with me going ahead and RSVP-ing and if others would be interested
in joining me.
cheers,
Caitlin

IN ONTARIO

Hi everyone,
Health for All in conjunction with No One is Illegal Toronto and Ontario
Coalition Against Poverty are planning to launch a province-wide campaign
for access to health, housing and social assistance for ALL! We invite you
to a visioning meeting. Please let me know who from HMRH can make it! Also,
please pass this invite on to the Hamilton Solidarity City folks if you
have their contact info.
:::SAVE THE DATE:::SATURDAY APRIL 26th:::
:::MIGRANT JUSTICE VISIONING SESSION:::
Dear HMRH
As members of Health for All, we believe that the work your organization
has done has a significant impact on achieving migrant justice in Hamilton.
As you're likely aware, 2013 was a significant year for migrant and health
justice organizing with the passing of the Solidarity City motion in
Toronto and then Hamilton, as well as the victory of the #FilltheIFHGap
campaign where Ontario declared it would provide healthcare for those being
denied access to federally funded health insurance for migrants seeking
refuge in Canada.
This past year has highlighted for us the necessity of dreaming big and
pushing for our vision of justice. The victories from 2013 have
strengthened our resolve for a more just province, and we'd like to focus
on three main provincially funded services: Healthcare, Housing and Social
Assistance for ALL, irrespective of immigration status. We're inspired by
what we achieved together in 2013 and this is why we'd like to invite you
to join us for a one-day visioning session on Saturday, April 26th, 2014 in
Toronto, Ontario (location TBA). We're hoping to bring together many
migrant justice, anti-poverty, housing justice and health justice groups so
we can brainstorm a provincial level campaign that will make Ontario into a
solidarity province! We're looking forward to building collective demands,
and envisioning what a multi-city campaign for access to health and social
services could look like.
We hope you or representatives (1-3) from your organization can attend, and
please RSVP so we know who is coming. If there are grassroots organizations
in your city/neighborhood that you think should be taking part in this day
of visioning, email us and let us know at healthforalltoronto at gmail.com. We
may be able to assist with billeting and have limited funding to support
peoples travel expenses so let us know how we can accommodate you.
We know together we can truly build communities where all people have
access to social assistance, just housing and healthcare irrespective of
their immigration status. We'll bring the food, you bring your visions and
dreams. Our collective effort is what we need to fight and win against
Canada's racist immigration system.
Hope to hear from you soon,
Nikki
On behalf of Health for All Toronto
