Totally cool with postponing...
Be well, Neil.
'til next week,

Hey
folks,
I appreciate all the feedback and the
conversations that are happening. So you know, I am in the
middle of a long stretch of work days without a day off, and
finding myself quite stressed, and my thinking maybe more
clouded than usual. I am wondering if you would all be okay
with taking the week off -- i.e. neither rehearsal nor
meeting the night of Monday, Sept. 19th. Is that cool?

Hey gang!
I have bright blue linear bruises all along my upper thighs
from Thursdays
walking play-a-thon...which means I get to be reminded
(quite often) of the
awesome jamming we did!
1. Venue for Monday: I would agree that we meet
elsewhere...I dig the
Capitol idea but I have ulterior liquid motives, obviously.
What time?
2. Meetings with purpose are essential for a group to
operate. However,
how meetings are approached make all the difference on the
success. I think
rather than highlight that we need to address "our
tensions" we need to
approach this meeting from a more positive and neutral
perspective where we
are there to be together and simply talk openly about our
views about
specific topics such as; a) Leading/leadership: What does
this mean and
what should this look like in our group, b) Teaching:
What are we
actually trying to teach to one another and to others ?
and c) Group roles
/operational goals: How can we support each other better
to be more
confident and cohesive as musicians? How will we then
transpose this to the
development of this group?
Sometimes improved cohesion comes from better understanding
of one another
and this only happens when we all feel valued, safe and
equally heard. I
know that I look at everyone in this group with respect and
I think that we
are all mature enough to come to understanding without an
external party
such as a facilitator. As we progress as a group, it is
normal to have
differences between us but if we opt immediately to reach
outside of us for
the solution, we can deny the opportunity to learn from
within. In my
opinion, if we set the tone of a meeting by inviting an
external
facilitator we are already hindering our abilities as a
group to problem
solve and become stronger. I know we can aspire to go
forward on a vibe of
positive unity and healthy energy as just Rythm Agogo!
3. Gigs: I'd really like to play with Senos on Oct 14th,
but we need to
practice fore sure! I can make the October 15, and Nov
19th Workshops as
well. Do we want to revisit a trivia night again? Other
group goal plans we
might want to persue?
Lastly, I sold the drums you all left with me on Kijiji so I
can pay for
coffee or drinks at the meeting! Yay!

I'd rather use group money for drums. If there is
conflict it can be
addressed by those having issues...so if anyone has an issue
with me, let
me know! Otherwise, I'd say we are all individuals and
in a group our size
there will be the occasional flare up on a bridge but
sometimes you need to
just agree to disagree. I'm also at a different stage in
my life and just
don't have patience for drama. You move on and try
again.
If you are not going to meet Monday, I do need to let Senos
know if we can
perform Oct. 14. Neil has the details if you do get
together.
Take care,
Julie

Subject: Re: [RhythmAgogo] Tonight, Next Week, and Beyond
Hi folks,
I am in touch with a facilitator, who I will be speaking
with tomorrow
evening. I'm guessing we may have to have the meeting
later in the week or
month if we are bringing in a facilitator, but from what
I've been hearing,
I think it will be well worth it.
Costs have not been discussed yet, but please tell me if you
would be
opposed to using group funds to pay for professional
facilitation. For the
record, we will have I think around $600 left after the
t-shirts are paid
for, so I would say we are in a good position,
financially.
I think that, at the start of a new season, it makes sense
to meet and talk
as a group, outside of our regular practice context, and
that we've been a
group long enough that a reevaluation of our goals and of
how we operate is
just generally a good idea.
We have lots of positives to celebrate and build on. There
are ideas that
have been proposed but not yet explored, and likely many
good ideas that
have not yet been voiced. And we have money that we should
discuss how best
to spend.
There are also tensions in the group that I've recently
become more aware
of, that I understand many of you have been struggling with
for some time,
and that I would like to see sufficiently addressed. I
suggest we strive to
find a time when we can all meet, probably for more than two
hours, with
professional facilitation; and that we use this time to work
through our
challenges and plan for the future. Sound good?
In solidarity,
Neil
