[RhythmAgogo] Ness Creek Applications

I've only gotten feedback from Tamara, Lauren and Carolyn... all positive.  I'm confident we have a core that we can plan on both the fundraiser and Ness programming.
I also have continued dialogue with Kristy and Dany re: Ness applications... deadline is March 1, so meeting tonight would be important if you and Fred are available.  Caro said she could help with the submission if we in fact only complete drafts of the applications.  Having someone actually submit them on the weekend will allow us to tweak the applications based on feedback from Ness so that we can sort of negotiate compensation and terms in advance... I hope to speak with Kristy either tonight while we meet or by Friday.
Where is a good location to meet tonight that is convenient for you?  I actually have to go to Cliff Wright Library this evening, but that may be far for everyone.  Thinking 7-8pm to meet.

Thanks for getting the ball rolling on this, Corey! I'm available tonight. Where were you thinking of meeting, and what time?I thought I should just check: Is anyone in the group opposed to us doing this? Or is there anyone who is not available to meet tonight, but has feedback you'd like taken into consideration? On Feb 23, 2016 12:05 PM, "Carolyn Doi" <caro.doi at gmail.com> wrote:

Hi Corey,
This all sounds fantastic. I would love to go to Ness with everyone and participate in any workshops or performances that are proposed. I'm not sure what time you are meeting on Wednesday, but I could help with editing the applications once they're done.

I love me some Rhythm Agogo!!!  Surprise!!! I had fun tonight!
So…
I proposed to the small group that attended tonight that we should prepare applications to do workshops and performances at Ness Creek 2016.  At the very least, it should cut down significantly on the cost of camping and add significantly to the fun!  I also have to prepare my own for my steel pan stuff, but this year, I think it would be better suited for our group to present workshops related to drumming.  Here is what I propose:
1) Drum Circle Workshop: I facilitated Basic Drum Circle and Etiquette last year with Carolyn, and it went very well despite my own lack of preparation (and thankfully Regina's Tribal Vibes and Carolyn were there to pick me up when I stumbled.  Basically, it was participatory, and allowed the audience to play very simple individual cadences and feeling a part of that community vibe when everyone syncopates into a living symphony of rhythm.  Those people in the audience that were comfortable with taking a solo were encouraged to express themselves, while the audience maintained the rhythm.  We did this for about 15 minutes times three basic rhythms.  I can see one, two or three of our members being the key facilitators, with the rest of us supporting and participating… and promoting our…
2) Drum Circle Performance: We all know how tiring it is to perform for an extended period of time.  But our large group could split up and perform three or four numbers over an hour, possibly leading up to the open drum circle that night, or wherever the organizers want to schedule us.  One brainstormed idea has us partnering with a rapper / poet / storyteller to perform with us during a number.
3) Children's Area Workshop / Presentation:  Ness Creek LOVES applicants for the Children's Area!  Carolyn and I had fun, as we did a musical craft project with the kids sandwiched in between two steelpan performances.  Before I knew it, our hour was done.  I will probably apply again to do the same thing this year… promised a child I would learn a song from Despicable Me (that was it, right Carolyn? haha).  But I think we would need to brainstorm what we would do as a group to entertain these kids!
For each application, I think we would want to list our entire ensemble as performers in order for us all to get the perks.  But Ness Creek may put a limit to how many people we can include, as we get to camp for free if our application(s) is accepted.  I have never negotiated a contract for a group, so I don't know if my pay from last year would reflect what we could get as a group.  But I will try to help plan and prepare our application / contract proposal for submission.
I know Fred and Neil are in for collaborating on the applications.  Anyone else that wants to plan the applications, please reply to me personally so that we can keep emails to a minimum.  Also, Please inform me if you know that you are not interested or unavailable for camping and performing at Ness Creek.  If we know, for example, that only ten of us are able to attend, compared to twenty or thirty of us, it will help… we have to list the members / performers on the applications to get you camping privileges and negotiate pay.
Check out the Ness Creek website for details.  The application should be online.  If we can conference on Wednesday to draft these up, and electronically submit them by Saturday, that will be awesome!  Thanks all!
Corey :)
