Hi folks,

I hope you all had a good turkey day / indigenous resistance day, enjoying
time with friends and/or family, or that you at least got a chance to
recharge a bit.

First off, I'd like to take a moment to celebrate some new members joining
the band: welcome Mesmer, Abraham, and Danish! I hope I've spelt your names
right. It's great to have you in the group!

*Upcoming Events*

If you do not already have access to the Google Calendar that Carolyn
created for the group, please email her and ask her to invite you.

Here is a summary of upcoming events, both confirmed and merely proposed.
Details and questions regarding a few specific events follow.

Gig (PROPOSED): TPP protest, 1 pm Oct. 17

Meeting (CONFIRMED): Trivia night planning, 6:30 pm Oct. 18

Gig (CONFIRMED): Puja, 8:30 pm Oct. 18

Next practice (CONFIRMED): 7 pm Oct. 19

Gig (CONFIRMED): SHCS fundraiser, 8:30 pm Oct. 22

Jam (CONFIRMED): Fermentation potluck, 7 pm Oct. 23

Open House (PROPOSED): 7 pm Oct. 26

Gig (PROPOSED): Prachiday, 6 pm Nov. 1

*TPP Protest*

This is a rally against the Trans-Pacific Partnership that the federal
government just signed, and which many fear will have very negative
economic, social, and environmental consequences for Canada and the world.
The deal has not yet been ratified, and a new government may opt not to.
Details are few at this point -- it's being planned last minute -- but I
understand it will start somewhere downtown at 1 pm this coming Saturday. I
will be working all day, and hence will not be able to be there. Marches
and rallies can be more free-style, though, so they don't even necessarily
require one band member to lead. Thoughts?

*Sexual Health Centre Fundraiser*
We are being offered compensation, and the chance to request whatever we
see as appropriate. They would gladly accept a donated performance. Should
we ask them for money, and if so, how much? This money stuff is not my
forte, so any feedback would be enormously appreciated. Thanks!

*Open House*

Regarding the proposed open house, it is my thought to create a Facebook
event invite and specifically invite friends we think may be interested in
joining Rhythm Agogo to come out, see what we do, and hopefully join in --
try out our instruments, learn some rhythms, maybe even share things they
know. Julie has okayed this. (Right, Julie?) Does anyone have any
objections, or alternative suggestions? Or shall we just go for it?

*Prachiday*
The U of S India Students' Society have invited us to perform at their
annual cultural event! The 6 pm set time is likely, but not fully
confirmed. We can play whatever we want, but they've specifically asked
about tabla and dhol players. Danish, would you be interested in doing a
tabla solo for part of our time? And Sudhir, maybe we can get you doing a
dhol solo or two in our version of Bhangra? We would have 6-7 minutes for
our set, and be playing in front of the stage. Who's in?

Keep on drumming in the free world (and don't forget to vote, if you can),

Neil
